The main fire hazards at Seaview Cottage mainly come from the actions of staying guests.
These risks would be from embers falling from the wood burner, cooking fires and from smoking.
The main sources of fuel at Seaview that are combustible are logs, and oil.
People at risk would be those guests staying at the cottage, especially children and elderly guests who may have mobility issues.
The likelihood of the logs catching fire without assistance is unlikely. The likelihood of a cooker fire depends upon the care exercised by the guests. Fire blankets and extinguishers are provided. The oil is stored in a bunded tank at a safe distance from the cottage and it is very unlikely that diesel will catch fire in such circumstances.
The highest risk probably comes from embers falling onto the rug from the wood burner. Qualified fitters have fit our wood burner. We recommend that you keep the door of the log stove closed when in use to prevent the risk of fire.
The cottage has three ground floor exits. Please ensure that you are familiar with how these are opened/closed and how to unlock them. A key has been secured to the patio doors from the lounge, the other two exits have been fit with locks that open without the need for a key. There are ground floor and first floor windows that can be exited, please familiarize yourselves with how the first floor windows open to a full capacity, be sure that your party know how to escape from these windows.
